At The Virginia Rose Company, we started with the goal of providing the best blooming roses to our customers. With over 45 years of experience in the industry, we have established ourselves as a trusted brand that delivers quality every time.

Every family has a story. Ours begins across the Atlantic.
In the early years of the twentieth century, a young Dutch family left the Netherlands with little more than determination, hope, and generations of knowledge about growing roses. Life in Europe had become uncertain, and they dreamed of building something that would belong to their children and grandchildren.

After arriving in the United States, the family eventually settled in the rolling countryside of southern Virginia. They were not wealthy. In fact, they had very little. They worked long days on neighboring farms, taking whatever jobs they could find. Every dollar they earned was carefully saved, always with the same dream in mind—to own a small piece of land they could call their own.

They purchased a modest farm where the Virginia soil, warm summers, and gentle climate proved ideal for growing roses. What began as a handful of carefully tended plants soon became fields filled with blooms. The family's Dutch heritage gave them an uncommon understanding of rose cultivation, breeding, and selection. They believed that a truly exceptional rose should possess more than beauty—it should have fragrance, vigor, resilience, and grace.

Each season they patiently cross-pollinated thousands of blooms, searching for something extraordinary. Most experiments never left the garden, but every now and then nature rewarded patience with a rose unlike any before it.

Over the decades, the family's original varieties gained recognition from gardeners, collectors, and horticultural societies throughout the country. Their roses earned countless ribbons, medals, and awards at regional and national exhibitions, establishing the family's reputation for excellence.
But while the awards filled display cases, the family's greatest pride remained the fields themselves.

Children grew up among rows of roses, learning to prune before they were tall enough to reach the tops of the bushes. They learned that every plant deserved careful attention, that quality could never be rushed, and that beauty was created through patience.
Those lessons became the foundation of a family tradition.

As one generation grew older, the next accepted the responsibility of carrying the nursery forward. They embraced new growing techniques while preserving the craftsmanship, breeding principles, and unwavering standards established by their parents, grandparents and Dutch ancestors.

Today, Virginia Rose Company is proudly entering its fourth generation.
Although the nursery has grown far beyond its humble beginnings, the values remain unchanged. Every rose is still selected for exceptional beauty, health, fragrance, and garden performance. Every new variety represents years of careful breeding, observation, and dedication.
